The Shoemaker Backgammon

A very special Shoemaker games set. Several tropical wood types were used to produce this backgammon. The set includes checker pieces made in “cueramo” (a rosewood variant) from Michoacan and white mahogany, called “primavera” by the locals and two shaker cups for dice in black leather. Another masterpiece created by Don for our amusement.

I was fascinated by the variety of tropical woods games sets and playing devices that Don developed in his immense creativity. I bought a wonderful Rummy in solid, very heavy cocobolo wood. The interior of the case includes brown leather on the upper side, each single player pieces are hand crafted and absolutely perfect.

For kids as well as for adults, here is a spinning top, produced in solid cocobolo wood…You may recall that this piece is shown in the YouTube video provided by Dick Shoemaker, produced back in 1986.
